Local, volunteer-run, open to everyone

About Maitland Social Table Tennis Club

Maitland Social Table Tennis Club is a community table tennis club run by volunteers for the people of the Maitland area. We exist to give locals a regular place to play, meet people, and enjoy the game in a low-pressure, friendly setting.

Who we are

We are a volunteer-run social club, not a high-performance programme. The people who run the sessions are the same ones who play in them. That keeps things relaxed and community-driven, which is exactly how we like it.

Our players cover a wide range: retirees who play the daytime sessions for the social side, families who come along on Friday evenings, returning players who have not picked up a bat in years, and complete beginners who have never played at all. Everyone is welcome, and everyone gets a game.

  • Volunteer-run and community-focused
  • All ages and skill levels welcome
  • A social club first, competitive pressure stays at the door
  • Regular sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

What we are about

Table tennis is easy to pick up and hard to put down, and that is a big part of what makes it such a good social sport. At our sessions the emphasis is on having a good time. You will find people playing serious games, people just hitting back and forth, and plenty of chatting between rallies.

We play at Pat Hughes Community Hall in Thornton, a comfortable local venue that has been home to community groups for years. It is easy to get to from Maitland, Cessnock, and the broader Hunter Valley.

Get involved

The easiest way to find out if the club is for you is to come along. Sessions run Monday and Wednesday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and Friday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Bats are provided, there is no booking, and it costs $5 on the door.

If you have questions before your first visit, Simon is the person to call. You will find the contact details on our contact page.
