No pressure, just good games

Social table tennis in Maitland

Social table tennis in Maitland is exactly what Maitland Social Table Tennis Club is built around. We run friendly, relaxed sessions three times a week at Pat Hughes Community Hall in Thornton. There are no skill requirements, no obligations, and no need to book. Come along, pick up a bat, and play.

A club where it is genuinely about the game

A lot of clubs can feel intimidating if you are not already good. Ours is different. People come for the social side as much as the table tennis. You will find regulars of all ages and abilities chatting between rallies, welcoming new faces, and keeping things light.

If you have not played before, friendly regulars are happy to help newcomers get a game. There is no performance pressure and no one keeping score of whether you win.

  • Complete beginners through to experienced players, all at the same sessions
  • Bats provided, so nothing to bring on your first visit
  • Pay $5 per session, only when you come
  • No booking, no commitment, just turn up

When the sessions run

We play on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and on Friday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. All three sessions have the same relaxed social feel.

Friday evening tends to draw a broader mix and is a comfortable session to start with. Daytime Monday and Wednesday sessions work well for retirees, shift workers, and anyone with a flexible schedule.

What it takes to join in

Sessions cost $5 each, paid as you go. There is also a $27 annual Table Tennis NSW membership, which you need to keep playing. That is all the cost involved.

We are at Pat Hughes Community Hall on Taylor Avenue in Thornton, with street parking right around the hall. Easy to find and easy to get to from across the Maitland area.

Common questions

Is it really social, or is it quite competitive?

Genuinely social. People enjoy a good rally and a bit of friendly rivalry, but there are no leagues, ladders, or competitions. It is just a good game and good company.

Can I just come once to see if I like it?

Yes. There is no commitment. Come along to a session, pay $5, and see how you find it before deciding whether to get the annual membership.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes and bring a water bottle. Bats are provided if you do not have your own.
