Social play in the Maitland area, open to all
Table tennis for Cessnock players, at our club in Thornton
Maitland Social Table Tennis Club is a friendly, relaxed club based in Thornton, and we welcome players from Cessnock and the wider Hunter to join us. Our sessions are in Thornton rather than Cessnock itself, so it is a drive, but for those who want a regular social game in a no-pressure environment, the trip is worth it.
The kind of club we are
We are about social play, pure and simple. There are no leagues, no rankings, and no stress. People come along for the enjoyment of a game and the company of other players.
Everyone gets a hit regardless of their level. Beginners are made just as welcome as long-time players, and nobody minds if you need a few extra rallies to find your feet.
- All skill levels and ages welcome
- Relaxed, friendly atmosphere at every session
- Bats and balls provided, nothing to buy first
- Pay only for the sessions you attend, $5 each
Session times and venue
We play at Pat Hughes Community Hall, Taylor Avenue, Thornton NSW 2322. Street parking is available on and around Taylor Avenue.
Sessions run on Monday and Wednesday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and on Friday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. If you are coming in from Cessnock, the Friday evening session is a practical one to start with.
What membership and sessions cost
Sessions are $5 each, paid on the day. There is also a $27 annual Table Tennis NSW membership, which you would take out once you are ready to play on a regular basis.
There is no pressure to sign up on your first visit. Come and have a game, and see whether the club suits you.
Common questions
Do you have sessions in Cessnock?
Our sessions are held at Thornton, in the Maitland area, not in Cessnock. It is a drive, but players do travel from across the Hunter for regular social play with us.
Is the Friday night session good for people new to the club?
Yes. The Friday evening session from 6:30pm to 8:30pm tends to be a relaxed and sociable way to start. There is no booking needed, just turn up.
I have never played table tennis properly before. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We are a social club with no grading or selection. Absolute beginners are welcome, and bats are provided so you can give it a go without any outlay.
